When the shouts of the fools fade from the streets and the fools have shed their costumes and roles, the Carnival exhibition organized by the Historische Narrozunft Villingen and the Franziskanermuseum is far from over. Now is the time to delve deeply into the Narro’s lineage and marvel at the special installation of the Fools’ Ship.
The exhibition runs through March 29. Public guided tours are offered on Sundays at 3 p.m.

The fools gathered in the exhibition around the historic Villingen Narro are his relatives from near and far: they include carnival figures from other places as well as characters from the Commedia dell’arte, the Viennese folk theater, and modern pop culture. The tour explains how even phenomena as far apart as Swabian-Alemannic Carnival and English rock music are connected.
Tickets for this and all other Sunday tours are available in advance at the museum ticket office (Tourist Information & Ticket Service) or online.

Werner Mezger already captivated audiences at the opening of the Carnival exhibition and as a commentator on the televised broadcast of the Carnival parade. At the invitation of the Historische Narrozunft, there is now another opportunity to hear this folklorist, well-known from television. In keeping with the lecture’s timing—shortly after Carnival and thus at the beginning of Lent—the customs from Carnival to Easter will be the focus of the lecture, titled “Games of Life and Death.”
Admission is free, but registration is required: franziskanermuseum@villingen-schwenningen.de or by phone at 07721/822351

Members of the Villingen Historical Carnival Guild personally guide visitors on Sundays: They are on hand in the exhibition halls to answer any questions about the exhibition and the Villingen Carnival. Public guided tours also take place every Sunday at 3 p.m.:
March 8: Christof Langenbacher, Historic Narro Guild March 15: Torsten Haas, Historic Narro Guild March 22: Michael Bohrer, Historic Narro Guild March 29—last public guided tour: Dr. Anita Auer, Franciscan Museum
Tickets for the public guided tours are available in advance at the museum ticket office at Tourist-Info & Ticket-Service, as well as online here:

City guide Rudolf Reim will present his favorite item from the Franziskanermuseum’s collection during a short tour. Which item it is will remain a secret until the very end. Following the short tour, there will be a social gathering in the foyer hosted by the Friends of the Municipal Museums in Villingen-Schwenningen.
Admission is free

In March, the fools’ theater will be performed for the last time as part of the accompanying program for the Carnival exhibition “Family Secrets: De Narro and His Whole Gang.”
The event is sold out.

At the end of the major Carnival exhibition, the concert hall will be transformed into a movie theater, featuring a new multimedia show by Thomas Herzog Singer and historical parade footage from the 1960s and 1970s. A Carnival film from 1927, never before shown to the public, will be accompanied live on the piano by Sebastian Schnitzer.
In cooperation with the Historische Narrozunft Villingen e.V.

The special exhibition featuring Ingeborg Jaag’s Carnival figures has been extended through Sunday, March 15. This means there is still an opportunity to admire the popular scene of the Wuescht being stuffed with straw. Other Jaag figures, such as Narro, Butzesel, and Altvillingerin, can also be discovered in the permanent exhibition.
Admission is free

On Sunday, March 1, 2020, the special exhibition will conclude with a public guided tour led by Dr. Michael Hütt: March 1, 3:00 p.m.

The destination is the Badisches Landesmuseum in Karlsruhe, where the magnificent exhibition “Emperor and Sultan: Neighbors in Europe, 1600–1700” is on display. An expert-led tour will showcase a wealth of Ottoman artifacts. Non-members are also warmly invited to participate.
The cost, including train fare, admission, and the guided tour, is 26 euros. Registration is available through the Friends’ Association chairperson, Wolfgang Heitner.
