Modernity and Technology

In Villingen and Schwenningen, the 19th and 20th centuries were marked by rapid growth in tourism and the establishment of these towns as industrial centers. The exhibition highlights the dynamism of the modern era and its diverse impacts on people’s living conditions. World-renowned products from the entertainment industry—ranging from the SABA radio to the Tipp-Kick game—offer a glimpse into the history of regional companies, from their beginnings to the recent past.

Dinosaurs of the History of Technology

In today’s fast-paced world, what was considered modern just yesterday is often already ready for the museum. In the exhibition on the city’s history in the 19th and 20th centuries, this is illustrated by a computer manufactured in Villingen by the Kienzle company in 1979: With dimensions comparable to a full-sized kitchen, it looks like a dinosaur of technological history.
