Even in earlier times, the Franciscan monastery fulfilled municipal functions, with the church serving as a meeting place for the city council and the citizenry. This role as a hub of community life was revitalized and significantly expanded through its transformation into a cultural center between 1978 and 1999.
Today, in addition to exhibitions, the venue hosts not only receptions and conferences but also lectures, concerts, and theater performances. The addition of a glass foyer created a striking contrast between the old and the new.
The Franciscan Cultural Center is home to the Villingen Tourist Information Office and the ticket service for theater and concerts. Exhibition catalogs and museum passes are sold there.
The Franziskaner offers a stylish setting for civil wedding ceremonies. Depending on the season and your preferences, you can choose from various locations within the former monastery walls: the picturesque courtyard, the former sacristy, or the choir room. And the café at the Franziskaner is the perfect spot for the reception afterward. From a champagne reception to a multi-course meal, anything is possible here.
