The 1920s were an exciting time and, as such, have been the subject of series such as “Babylon Berlin.” After World War I, a shift toward modernism took hold, inspiring many artists. The visual arts and dance became more expressive: modern expressive dance was “born.” Women were pursuing higher education and increasingly entering the workforce. They claimed cafés as places they could visit in public without male accompaniment.
Let yourself be inspired by the spirit of optimism as you visit the exhibition featuring artworks from this era.
Admission is 5 euros; reduced rate 3 euros.

In her Sunday tour, exhibition curator Anita Auer highlights the influence that the so-called “Golden Twenties” had on the Villingen artists of that era: Ludwig Engler, Waldemar Flaig, Richard Ackermann, and Paul Hirt.
Thanks to the decline in infection rates, visiting the museum and participating in guided tours is now easier than before. The only requirements are contact tracing and wearing a mask.

In this popular series of guided tours, the city and museum guide will present her favorite object from the Franziskanermuseum’s permanent exhibition. Afterward, the Friends of the Municipal Museums in Villingen-Schwenningen will host a reception. Admission is free!

Thanks to the renowned living history group Carnyx, visitors can once again immerse themselves in the Iron Age this year. Joining the event for the first time is archaeotechnician Frank Trommer, who will demonstrate Celtic blacksmithing techniques in the courtyard of the Franziskaner Museum. The program is rounded out by hands-on activities, guided tours for children and adults, a weapons display, and refreshments. Admission is free. Event partners are Sparkasse Schwarzwald-Baar and the Friends of the Municipal Museums in Villingen-Schwenningen.

What could be better for kids than celebrating their own birthday? Starting now, children’s birthday parties can once again be held at the Franciscan Museum. The event includes a guided tour with a craft or game activity, the theme of which can be selected based on the children’s preferences and ages. The options range from the Stone Age to a unicorn-themed birthday party. The fee of 60 euros includes the guided tour and use of the space—which, weather permitting, can also be held in the courtyard.

The Franciscan Museum offers a stylish setting for civil wedding ceremonies. Within the former monastery walls, you can choose from various locations: the picturesque inner courtyard, the former sacristy, or the choir room. And for the reception afterward, the Café im Franziskaner is the perfect venue. From a champagne reception to a multi-course meal, anything is possible here.
The civil registry office will be happy to advise you: standesamt@villingen-schwenningen.de.
