The special exhibition “Water Is Life: 125 Years of Pressurized Water Supply in Villingen-Schwenningen,” presented in cooperation with Stadtwerke Villingen-Schwenningen, will be on view at the Franziskanermuseum through Sunday, July 5. In a public Sunday tour, city and museum guide Rudolf Reim invites visitors to a guided tour of the current water exhibition and to view thematically selected objects in the permanent collection.
The Sunday tour is limited to 20 participants. Tickets for the tour, priced at 5 euros (reduced rate: 3 euros), are available at the museum ticket office.

This guided tour focuses on the legends and stories surrounding Central Europe’s largest burial mound. From the meeting point at the Franciscan Museum, the group (max. 20 people) sets out on an approximately 35-minute hike to the early Celtic Magdalenenberg on the outskirts of Villingen. Once there, Peter Graßmann will tell tales of witches, giants, and lost castles, and will also explore the speculations surrounding an alleged lunar calendar. In the process, it becomes clear just how far truth and fantasy sometimes diverge—and sometimes do not.
Tickets, priced at 5 euros (reduced rate: 3 euros), are available at the ticket office in the foyer of the Franciscan Museum. The tour ends at Magdalenenberg.

As part of the “In the Spotlight” guided tour series, city tour guide Franz Kleinbölting will be our guest in the third quarter of 2020. He will present one of his favorite objects from the Franziskanermuseum’s collection from his personal perspective. The event series is organized in cooperation with the Friends of the Municipal Museums in Villingen-Schwenningen, who will host a reception afterward at the Café im Franziskaner for attendees to mingle. Participation is free of charge.

What could be better for kids than celebrating their birthday with friends? After a long hiatus due to COVID-19, various birthday packages—including age-appropriate museum tours and craft activities—are now available for booking again. The mammoth wearing a mask is featured in the “Hands-On Stone Age” program. Other popular themes include “Unicorns and Other Mythical Creatures” and “Knights and Castle Maidens.” A children’s birthday party with a guided tour, arts-and-crafts activity, and room rental costs 60 euros.
