Museums Remain Closed

Looking Forward to the Reopening

All museums and cultural institutions remain closed. The pandemic-related closure is currently in effect until at least January 10, 2021. The German Museum Association is working nationwide to develop medium- and long-term strategies to ensure access to museums as the pandemic continues.
We hope that we at the Franziskanermuseum will soon be able to facilitate meaningful cultural encounters and creative engagement once again. We miss our visitors, who bring the museum’s work to life, and look forward to reopening soon in 2021.

The entire museum team wishes you a happy and healthy New Year!

Exhibition Opening on January 6, 2021: A Parade in Doll Size. The Figures of Ingeborg Jaag

The Carnival exhibition “Parade in Miniature: The Figures of Ingeborg Jaag” cannot be presented to the public on Epiphany in 2021, as is customary. However, the Historische Narrozunft Villingen e.V. and the Franziskanermuseum hope that this will be possible at a later date.

New Poster Series from the Franciscan Museum

Part 5: Really Sharp

The fifth and final poster in our series depicts three Celtic daggers found as grave goods in the secondary burials at Magdalenenberg. The slogan “really sharp” plays on an association from the world of culinary delights, which—alongside the other ambiguous themes of the image campaign, such as “really sweet,” “really hearty,” or “really crisp”—is intended to pique curiosity about our museum treasures. After we reopen, we’ll use the campaign to promote our museum and free admission to the permanent exhibition.

"GeheimnisGräberei" Game Project

What was once found in the princely burial chamber at Magdalenenberg? Starting in the summer of 2021, our visitors will be able to uncover the secrets of the Celtic tomb in an augmented reality game. Together with NUMENA and Archäologische Illustrationen, we are developing an exciting and innovative app that combines the latest scientific findings with a fantastic story. Stay tuned!
