Jeff Bezos and Richard Branson are flying into space—what does that have to do with the Franciscan Museum!? Not much, but one of the paintings in our current special exhibition, “The 1920s as Reflected by Villingen’s Modernist Artists,” once evoked associations with moon rockets in a fellow artist. Dr. Anita Auer explains why in the museum blog STADT HOCH 2.

This small exhibition showcases tools and creations from an ancient craft: bookbinding. Participants in a vhs course are displaying their work in the display cases of the cloister at the Franziskaner. They have been practicing this art for over 30 years.
The exhibition can be visited during the opening hours of the Tourist Information & Ticket Service:
Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Admission is free

The 2021 Museum Festival is scheduled to take place on Sunday, October 24, in its traditional combination with the Sunday shopping event and the opening of the annual exhibition of the Kunstverein Villingen-Schwenningen e.V.
Under the theme “Journey Through Time,” the event—organized in cooperation with the Friends of the Municipal Museums in Villingen-Schwenningen and the historical modeling agency “Sissis Erben”—will be a celebration featuring dazzling costumes. We hope that as many guests as possible will come to the museum festival with an umbrella, charm, and a bowler hat. We’ll reveal more in the coming weeks…

The Franciscan Museum has expanded its social media presence and can now be found on Instagram.
