On Slow Art Day, take the time to linger a little longer in front of a selected museum object. Much like with Slow Food, the idea is to learn how to savor the experience: not to consume as many works of art as possible in the shortest amount of time, but to truly appreciate just one. But how does that work? The Franciscan Museum has put together a guide for this day on how to consciously experience a work of art. This guide is printed on a postcard, which is available free of charge at the museum ticket office and from the docents. The cover image features a spark that can symbolically leap between the visitor and the artwork when this is achieved.

How about a treasure hunt at the museum this Easter? Tablets for the virtual museum experience in the Magdalenenberg Celtic Royal Tomb section can be borrowed free of charge at the museum ticket office. With the new game “GeheimnisGräberei,” you can uncover the secrets of the Celtic treasure yourself!
During Easter, the Franciscan Museum is open every holiday from Good Friday through Easter Monday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Easter Saturday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

We are pleased to announce that, starting Sunday, April 3, we will once again be able to welcome all museum visitors without any entry restrictions. The limits on attendance and the mask requirement will also be lifted for cultural events. The spacious rooms of the former Franciscan monastery are perfect for a relaxing cultural experience. We continue to recommend wearing an FFP2 mask indoors.

On Friday, May 13, at 5 p.m., we will open our special exhibition “KULT(UR)WALD: The Settlement of the Black Forest.” We’re really looking forward to it. Come celebrate with us. This special exhibition is also one of the highlights of Villingen-Schwenningen’s 50th anniversary year!
Of course, we’re also offering an extensive accompanying program featuring guided tours, a Celtic Day, lectures, and readings. The exhibition will be on view through October 16, 2022.
